Pelle van Amersfoort’s double gives Ajax first Eredivisie defeat since October

Pelle van Amersfoort grabbed his first goals since early December to give SC Heerenveen a 3-2 win over Ajax at home. The 27-year-old striker had not scored since a brace against Almere City on the 1st of December, but against Ajax he again grabbed a brace either side of Osame Sahraoui’s goal to make it 3-0 after just 46 minutes.

However, Ajax did try and mount a comeback. Pawel Bochniewicz own goal after 51 minutes gave them a lifeline, with Chuba Akpom getting his sixth goal of the season to make it 3-2. In the final minutes the hosts had to clear the ball off the line, although the replay showed it was incredibly close to being over the line. Just a matter of centre-metres meant that Ajax lost their first Eredivisie game since October.

This defeat means that the gap to third spot is now nine points, while for Heerenveen they increase their buffer to the relegation play-off by seven points.
