Heerenveen set to approach former Feyenoord, Arsenal and Manchester United striker Robin van Persie over head coach role

Eredivisie side SC Heerenveen have added Robin van Persie to their list of possible head coaches. According to Voetbal International, the club are set to approach the former Feyenoord, Arsenal and Manchester United icon with the hopes that he’ll take over at the end of the season.

Heerenveen have already approached several managers in regards to the role, including former Ajax boss Maurice Steijn and former PSV head coach Ruud van Nistelrooy. Robin van Persie is currently in charge of Feyenoord’s U18’s and he’s set to take over the U21 side this summer. Heerenveen could give the 102-time Netherlands international the opportunity to manage in the Eredivisie.

Heerenveen are currently 11th in the table having won nine and drawn six of their 29 games so far this season. It’s been a fairly average season for the side currently managed by Kees van Wonderen. Their chances of playing European football next season are extremely slim and at the same time, there is no threat of relegation. Appointing a young manager like Robin van Persie could be the effect move for Heerenveen.
