Kevin Denkey hits twenty as 10 man Cercle Brugge overtake struggling Gent

Kevin Denkey grabbed two more goals this weekend to reach 20 goals for the season in just 24 games for Cercle Brugge. The 23-year-old Togolese striker remains the Belgian Pro League top scorer as he helped his side overcome a struggling Gent side on Sunday afternoon.

It didn’t take long for Denkey to grab his first, with Leonardo Da Silva Lopes providing the assist within five minutes. However, Cercle had to do it the hard way after Flavio Nazinho picked up two yellow cards in the space of 10 minutes to put the away side on the back foot after 22 minutes.

Gent finally made their numerical advantage count after 50 minutes with veteran striker Laurent Depoitre finding the equaliser. However, Denkey grabbed his second just 15 minutes later to make it 2-1 and give Cercle a huge win. The three points mean the side overtakes Gent and now sits in fifth place. Next up for Cercle is the Brugge derby on the 18th of February.
