Manchester United target Santiago Giménez receives European suspension

Feyenoord will have to do without striker Santiago Giménez in the next two matches in a European context – if he stays at De Kuip, Voetbal International reports.

The Mexican striker receives the suspension following the red card he received in extra time against AS Roma. Giménez came flying in hard at Roma defender Gianluca Mancini in the Europa League quarter-finals which saw the Eredivisie side bow out 4-2 on aggregate.

Due to the suspension, Giménez – if he stays in South Rotterdam – will have to miss Feyenoord’s first two group matches in the Champions League.

The Eredivisie leader’s top scorer’s future has been brought into question recently with a number of clubs linked with signing striker – including Manchester United.

Other Premier League sides such as Brighton & Hove Albion and Crystal Palace are also thought to be monitoring the Mexican international’s availability though that might have died down now United have stepped up their interest.

Gimenez himself has said he is very happy with life at De Kuip having had to fight for place in the first-team since his arrival from Liga MX.

If Gimenez were to leave the Eredivisie champion-elect then the ban would still carry over which could see him suspended for potential new boss Erik ten Hag if he were to move to Old Trafford or even in the Europa League if Brighton & Hove Albion continue their fine season under Roberto De Zerbi – despite getting thrashed 5-1 at home to Everton.
