FC Twente convert Alec Van Hoorenbeeck’s loan into full transfer from KV Mechelen

FC Twente have announced that they have taken up the purchase option on Alec Van Hoorenbeeck. The 25-year-old Belgian defender has been on loan at the club for the season from KV Mechelen and will cost around €600k. This will be a welcome source of funds for Mechelen who are in a position where they need to reinvest in the squad over the summer with some key players potentially on the move.

In the Eredivisie the defender has played 13 times, mainly off the bench. It ends a decades long spell with Mechelen, with Van Hoorenbeeck having come through the youth system. He leaves the side having played 55 times and provided two assists. During the 2020/2021 season he spent time in the Dutch second tier with Helmond Sport, playing 39 games and scoring three goals.

FC Twente are currently sitting in 3rd place in the Dutch top flight, four points ahead of AZ Alkmaar in fourth. They are nine points behind defending champions Feyenoord in second place.
