Former Reading FC midfielder grabs assist as Sparta Rotterdam leapfrog Fortuna Sittard in the race for the top eight

Sparta Rotterdam ended a run of four games without a win in the Eredivisie with a 4-0 victory over Fortuna Sittard on Saturday afternoon. Former Reading FC and Ajax midfielder Pelle Clement grabbed just his second assist of the season to provide the opener for Belgian midfielder Arno Verschueren. The former Lommel man has scored eight goals this season so far.

With the score at 1-0 going into the break, Fortuna Sittard were certainly still in with a chance. However, Tobias Lauritsen struck just over 10 minutes into the second-half to make it 2-0, added his second in the 88th minute. The Norwegian forward is expected to leave the club in the summer and was of interest to Hellas Verona during the January transfer window. The 26-year-old has scored nine goals this season now, with seven assists as well. In two seasons with Sparta he has scored 25 goals in 67 games.

In added time the hosts made it 4-0 thanks to Camiel Neghli who scored his third goal of the season. The two teams are level on points and sit just outside of the top eight.
