Koji Miyoshi suffers injury setback

Royal Antwerp’s Japanese attacking midfielder Koji Miyoshi suffered a tear in the anterior cruciate ligament during the 2-1 defeat to Kortrijk. Miyoshi will undergo surgery on the 7th of October 2022 and is expected to be out for a couple of months, according to the clubs official website.

Miyoshi has featured in 15 matches across all competitions for Antwerp this season, scoring one goal and providing six assists. Miyoshi joins Tarik Tissoudali (Gent), Luca Oyen (Genk) and Erdon Daci (Westerlo) in suffering an ACL injury in the Belgian Pro League this seasonl.

Antwerp’s defeat to Kortrijk was their first in the league under new manager Mark Van Bommel. Back in September, Van Bommel stated when asked about the unbeaten start that “We’re not going to relax now, that’s not in this team. We will still experience situations in which we will lose. Then we have to continue on the same path and with the same way of playing as where we started”.
