Former DC United forward may reject USMNT international call up in January to remain in Westerlo

Westerlo are starting to finally find some form. Over their last five games they have only lost once, winning three and drawing one. Those wins have all come against teams in and around them at the bottom. One of the catalysts for this turn in form has been the emergence of 21-year-old American forward Griffin Yow. The former DC United man was signed last summer, but has had to wait almost an entire season to finally break into the first team. So far this season he has scored three goals and provided two assists in 10 matches, starting eight of those.

This recent form could see him earn a maiden call up to the USMNT senior squad. However, as reported by Voetbalkrant, Yow may turn this down. The call-up would see him available for a friendly on the 20th of January, but for Yow, staying in Belgium appears to be a better option. He said ‘It may be more important for my development to stay here in January‘.

This response is a clear sign of confidence that the young player has. He went on to say that playing for the senior men’s team is clearly an ambition he has for his career, but at this moment in time he feels that the opportunity will come again in the future. If he continues to perform at the level he is, then there is no doubt that the chance to play for the USMNT will come again.
