Gent want to take Wouter Vrancken from Genk for next season

According to reports by Het Nieuwsblad, Gent want to appoint Wouter Vrancken as their new head coach. The former KV Mechelen head coach is currently in charge of Genk and has a contract until 2026. However, there have been rumours that Vrancken will be relieved of his duties at the end of the season by Genk. The head coach believes that he has done the best he can with the tools at his disposal, while the Genk hierarchy believe that he should have done more.

Gent are looking for a successor to Hein Vanhaezebrouck, who is set to leave the club at the end of the season. They appear to have settled on Vrancken in an attempt to bring his exciting attacking brand of football to the club. It could well be a role that appeals to Vrancken, given that Gent will have money to spend after selling Gift Orban, Malick Fofana and Hugo Cuypers in January for over €50m.

Should Genk decide to keep Vrancken, Gent could still bring him in, but would have to pay a fee to release him from his contract.
