Club Brugge activate purchase option for Nordin Jackers despite the return of Simon Mignolet

After impressing following a spell as the clubs starting goalkeeper, Club Brugge have decided to activate the purchase option for Nordin Jackers. The on loan OH Leuven goalkeeper has signed a contract until 2027 with the Pro League leaders. Remarkably, the 26-year-old will leave OH Leuven having made no appearances in two years there, something that will surely frustrate the fans having seen how well he has performed for Club Brugge this season.

Jackers proved himself a capable goalkeeper during his time with SK Beveren, then known as Waasland-Beveren, between 2019 and 2022. Leuven brought him from the second tier to the Pro League but never used him, allowing the goalkeeper to join Club Brugge on loan this season. Jackers only got his chance in starting line-up after an injury to former Liverpool and Sunderland goalkeeper Mignolet. He took his opportunity with both hands and has proven that he is still a talented goalkeeper.

However, the decision to remain with Club until 2027 could certainly be seen as a gamble, considering that Mignolet is almost certain the be the sides number one next season. As an experienced pro who has won trophies for the club, it would be unlikely that they will move on from him this summer. Jackers would certainly have had plenty of suitors elsewhere in Belgium as a number of clubs are in the market for a new goalkeeper for the 2024/2025 season.
