Bart Verbruggen gets sixth clean sheet in a row after win over AZ Alkmaar

Anderlecht’s defence continued to play well as they recorded their sixth clean sheet on the bounce. Liverpool and Manchester United target Bart Verbruggen has not conceded since the 9th of March away to Villarreal in the Europa Conference League Round of 16. The Dutchman once again kept another strike force out as Anderlecht beat AZ Alkmaar 2-0 to take control of their Conference League quarter-final.

The defence, which includes the experienced Jan Vertonghen and another Premier League target in Zeno Debast has been playing some of its best football of the season in recent weeks. Right-back Michael Murillo opened the scoring for the side with 22 minutes gone. Ghanaian midfielder Majeed Ashimeru, arguably Anderlecht’s player of the game on the night, then grabbed the second with 20 minutes to go.

While they are doing well in Europe, Anderlecht are struggling to make the play-offs in the Pro League. With two games to go they are in 9th place, a point behind Charleroi. The Zebras are, ironically, managed by Felice Mazzu who began the season with the Mauves before being sacked in October.
