Victor Boniface level with Marcus Rashford at the top of the Europa League scoring charts

Union St Gilloise striker Victor Boniface is now joint top scorer in the Europa League with Manchester United’s Marcus Rashford. The 22-year-old Nigerian striker has scored six goals in the tournament this season, with the latest coming in last nights 1-1 draw with Bayer Leverkusen. His performances in the tournament have seen the player linked with a number of clubs, leading to Union stating that if their valuation for the player is met in the summer they will not block a move.

Rermarkably, in nine European games the striker has scored just one less than his league tally. In the Belgian Pro League, Boniface has seven goals in 29 games, 26 of which were starts. This is his best season of his career, as while he was in Norway the striker’s highest goal tally was six. This came firstly in 2020 and then in 2022, with 2021 being blighted by injury.

With just two games to go in Belgium before the play-offs, Union are well and truly in the title race. They sit in second place just two points behind leaders Genk. Once the play-offs are confirmed, all points will be halved.
