Stoke City loanee scores the winner as Sheffield United linked Beerschot end two year absence from Belgian Pro League

On loan Stoke City winger D’Margio Wright-Phillips scored the goal that ensured Beerschot were promoted back to the top flight of Belgian football. The 22-year-old son of Sean Wright-Phillips made it 2-0 for the side in the second half against Oostende, which proved to be crucial when the home side scored in the 67th minute. However, the relegation threatened Oostende could not mount a full comeback, meaning that Beerschot were promoted to the Belgian Pro League.

The side are linked to Sheffield United through ownership and are currently managed by former Liverpool legend Dirk Kuyt. He took over midway through the season and has been able to maintain the sides push for promotion. With two games to go, the side sit five points ahead of Dender in second and seven ahead of Lommel. Avoiding defeat next weekend will see them promoted as league winners once again, having won the Belgian second tier back in 2020.
