Waalwijk sign experienced Dutch defender Aaron Meijers from Sparta Rotterdam

RKC Waalwijk have announced the signing of Aaron Meijers on a one-year contract. The 35-year-old left-back will join the club at the end of the season on a free transfer from Sparta Rotterdam

Meijers has played over 340 games of Eredivisie football across his 17-year playing career. His longest spell with a single club lasted eight seasons with ADO Den Haag. The defender previously spent two years at Waalwijk, where he helped them lift the second-division title in 2011. Having spent the last three seasons at Sparta Rotterdam, Meijers will return to Waalwijk once this season ends.

Waalwijk’s CEO Frank van Mosselveld has said ‘We are delighted that Aaron has chosen RKC Waalwijk at this time in his career. With his experience, Aaron is an important asset to the club and within the group of players.’ This week Waalwijk have also signed 27-year-old goalkeeper Jeroen Houwen, who joins from Vitesse on a free transfer.

Waalwijk are currently 9th in the Eredivisie with two games remaining. Next season they’ll be looking to build on what’s been a very successful campaign under the management of Joseph Oosting. Although, someone else will be in charge at the Mandemakers Stadion next season, as Oosting has agreed to become boss at FC Twente.
