FC Twente confirm interest in four players including highly rated 18-year-old Ruben van Bommel

According to Voetbal International, FC Twente currently have four summer transfer targets including the highly-rated youngster Ruben van Bommel. Marouan Azarkan is another Twente target. The winger has impressed this season on loan at Excelsior from Feyenoord.

Practically every Eredivisie club is interested in Ruben van Bommel. Born in 2004, the youngest son of Antwerp head coach Mark van Bommel currently plays in the Keuken Kampioen Divisie for MVV Maastricht. This season the left-winger has scored 15 goals and provided five assists in 31 appearances. Van Bommel is the youngest player with 15 or more goals in the top 7 European leagues and their corresponding second divisions this season. His contract expires this summer, but the 18-year-old wants to extend it to allow MVV to benefit from his transfer.

Twente could also turn to Marouan Azarkan this summer. The 21-year-old right-winger has scored three and assisted six goals in 25 appearances for Excelsior this season. Azarkan will return to his parent club, Feyenoord, at the end of the season. 

Ajax youngster Youri Regeer is another versatile player that Twente want to sign. Regeer has impressed playing in both defence and midfield for Jong Ajax this season. Twente also want to make the loan signing of 21-year-old Anass Salah-Eddie from Ajax permanent.

Twente’s technical director Jan Streuer confirmed that talks were ongoing with Van Bommel and Azarkan. The 72-year-old who is set to leave the club at the end of the season said, ‘You should never bet on one horse. It’s good to talk to players and find out if they are keen. People are already getting impatient, wanting new names right away. But there is no rush. We are in full swing. And even in July and August, good players will still come on the market.’ Twente are currently fifth in the Eredivisie and have secured a spot in the Europa Conference League play-offs.
