Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Standard Liege are looking at the possibility to sign Michael Frey from Antwerp. The Swiss striker, who spent the second half of last season on loan at Schalke 04, having scored 24 goals during the 2021/2022 season. Schalke were relegated this season and Frey failed to score during 15 games in the Bundesliga. However, he did manage to provide three assists.
Since moving to Belgium in the summer of 2020, Frey has been one of the top performing strikers in the Belgian Pro League. The striker has played 74 games in the Pro League and has scored 41 goals, as well as four goals during the play-offs.
Standard lacked a prolific striker last season, and clearly see 28-year-old Frey as a perfect fit. The striker did once score five goals against them for Antwerp during the 2021/2022 season.
The club recently announced the signing of former Burnley midfielder Aiden O’Neill from Melbourne City on a four year deal.
