PSV and Mexico star Hirving Lozano set to join MLS expansion side San Diego FC as first major signing

According to the Eindhovens Dagblad and Fabrizio Romano, MLS expansion side San Diego FC are in ‘advanced talks’ to sign Hirving Lozano from PSV Eindhoven. The club are aiming to make the Mexican their first marquee signing as they prepare to enter the pinnacle of US football.

Though a deal is not done yet, San Diego hope to get everything over the line before June’s Copa America, where Lozano is expected to feature for Mexico. Conversations are underway with a $12m fee being discussed. PSV re-signed Lozano from Napoli last summer, spending around €15m on the man that they sold to the Italian champions for €45m. ‘Chucky’ Lozano is now expected to leave just one year into his five-year contract at PSV.

The 28-year-old has scored six goals and provided three assists in 21 Eredivisie appearances this season, helping Peter Bosz’s side develop a remarkable nine-point gap at the top of the table. Hirving Lozano would be a huge signing for San Diego as they look to make an instant impact in the MLS. However, the club are still yet to appoint a head coach and talks with the 70-time Mexico international are still in the early stages.
