Mali international Nene Dorgeles takes over from Lyle Foster after hat-trick against Cercle Brugge

Nene Dorgeles overtook Lyle Foster as Westerlo’s top scorer this season after a hat-trick against Cercle Brugge. The 20-year-old Malian striker has scored 11 goals in 32 games for the club since joining on loan from RB Salzburg in the summer. Surprisingly, this was the striker’s first start in four games, with his last starting berth coming on the 18th of March against KV Oostende. Since the start of February, Dorgeles has only started four games, scoring five goals.

The striker, who has been capped by the Malian national team, is currently valued at €1.6m on Transfermarkt and has a contract with Salzburg until 2025. Westerlo, as far as is known, do not have a purchase option on the striker. Dorgeles is one of a number of players on loan at the club who will be leaving in the summer. This squad has led the side, who were only promoted back into the Pro League during the 2021/2022 season, into the play-offs.

After defeats to Cercle and Gent, it is unlikely that Westerlo will be able to finish fifth and enter the Europa Conference League qualification rounds.
