Antwerp goalkeeper out for the season with hand fracture

Antwerp have announced that goalkeeper Jean Butez will no longer play this season. The 28-year-old French goalkeeper suffered a fractured hand during the sides 1-0 defeat to Anderlecht and has been ruled out for the rest of the play-offs. The former Lille goalkeeper joined Antwerp in the summer of 2020 from Mouscron and, after a strong campaign last season, has been linked with moves away.

However, these did not materialise and he has remained with the club who he helped to win their first league title since 1957. Whether or not this injury costs him a move in the summer remains to be seen. His contract at Antwerp expires in 2026, so the side may look to get some value for him during the upcoming summer transfer window instead of losing him for free next year.

In his place is likely to come Senne Lammens. The 21-year-old joined the side from Club Brugge in the summer. He will now get to play the remainder of the play-offs and the cup final against Union St Gilloise.
