Former Leeds United and Southampton target closing in on move to the MLS

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Genk winger Joseph Paintsil is closing in on a move to LA Galaxy. While the player is currently away from the squad with an illness, the reports suggest that he has played his final game for the club. Over the summer there was interest from England, with both Southampton and Leeds United interested in signing the player. However, Paintsil chose to stay with Genk instead. Now, he looks set to leave the club and move to the MLS.

The 26-year-old had a strong season during the 2022/2023 campaign, scoring 17 goals and providing 11 assists. In the Pro League this season he has scored six goals and grabbed four assists, with a further two goals and one assist in the Europa Conference League Group Stages. Since joining Genk from Ferencvaros in the summer of 2018, he has played 168 games and scored 40 goals.

At international level, Paintsil has played 15 games for Ghana. He was part of the side that recently disappointed with a group stage exit during the AFCON.
