Former Brighton academy prospect continues to light up the Belgian Pro League

Anderlecht’s title challenge continued yesterday evening with a 2-0 win over Cercle Brugge. While their opponents were without top scorer Kevin Denkey, Anderlecht were happy to have their leading scorer available and firing. Anders Dreyer scored again to give himself 13 goals for the season in 18 games. The 25-year-old Dane, formerly of the Brighton academy, is quickly becoming a key player for the side.

While he was criticised much of last season for disappearing during matches, the Danish international has managed to add goals to his game this season that means when he isn’t directly involved in the play he is still a threat on the pitch. Over his last six matches he has grabbed six goals. The highlight of his season so far was certainly a remarkable ha-trick against OH Leuven at the end of October.

Dreyer began his career with Esbjerg fB in Denmark, playing 47 times and scoring 23 goals. Brighton signed him in the summer of 2018 but he spent the majority of his time in East Sussex in the clubs U23 side. Outside of that, he had periods on loan at St Mirren and SC Heerenveen. In January 2020 he returned to Denmark for his first spell with Midtjylland. After 18 goals in 70 games he joined Rubin in Russia. Eight goals in 14 games followed, but after the invasion of Ukraine he returned to Denmark, initially joining Midtjylland on loan. Dreyer joined the side permanently in the summer of 2022.

After 10 goals in 27 games he was signed by Anderlecht in January 2023. So far he has played 39 games for the Mauves, scoring 18 goals.
