Club Brugge showing interest in Nigerian defender Chidozie Awaziem

Sacha Tavolieri is reporting that Club Brugge are looking into the prospect of signing Nigerian central defender Chidozie Awaziem. According to Tavolieri, Awaziem’s current club Boavista are looking for around €4m for the 26-year-old. The defender has been capped 21 times for the Super Eagles, scoring once.

Awaziem began his career with FC Porto, but only made 15 appearances for the side. He spent most of his time at Porto on loan to other sides, before leaving to join Boavista in the summer of 2020. The defender has made 33 appearances for the side, spending spells again on loan with Alanyaspor and Hadjuk Split. Last season, for Split, he scored five goals in 36 appearances.

Club Brugge are looking to replace Abakar Sylla, who left to join Strasbourg earlier in the summer. They may also see another central defender depart in Jack Hendry, with the Scottish international attracting interest from Saudi-Arabia.
