Will Still nominated for Belgian coaching award

As reported by Het Nieuwsblad, Will Still is one of three candidates for the Raymond Goethals Trophy. The Trophy is an award that is presented annually to a Belgian football coach, or a coach with dual, part Belgian nationality, who most closely resembles former football coach Raymond Goethals in terms of working method. Joining Still on the shortlist are Genk’s Wouter Vrancken and Gent’s Hein Vanhaezebrouck.

For Still, this has been a remarkable rise since he left Belgium back in the summer of 2021, with his then club Beerschot deciding that they wanted someone with more experience. They opted for Peter Maes, and after another two coaches during the 2021/2022 season they were eventually relegated. Still is currently working in France at Reims, having taken over from the current OH Leuven coach Oscar Garcia. Initially working as a caretaker, his body of work was so impressive that he was made permanent head coach of the French side. Reims are currently fifth in Ligue 1 with six wins, two draws and four defeats in their opening 12 games.

Last years winner of the trophy was Karel Geraerts, then at Union St Gilloise. Geraerts is currently head coach at Schalke 04.
