Ajax Women lose 3-0 in Rome

Ajax Women’s team travelled to Rome on Thursday evening for their second game in their UEFA Women’s Champions League. Ajax Vrouwen were unfortunately unable to repeat the success of their first game in the competition and fell 3-0 losers to Roma Women. The game did not start well for the team from Amsterdam as they fell a goal down after merely 5 minutes after Valentina Giacinti scored for Roma. Only 9 minutes later the situation got worse for Ajax as Giacinti scored her second to put Roma in a comfortable position only 14 minutes into the game.

The game did not get better for Ajax as just after the break Manuela Giugliano scored Roma’s third of the game after an assist from Norwegian midfielder Emilie Haavi. Ajax manager Suzanne Bakker tried to turn the game around for the Amsterdammers through a number of substitutions, however this was all in vain as the game slipped away from them and they were never able to mount any sustained pressure on the Roma goal.

The result of this game leaves Ajax in third position in their group with three points, while Bayern and Roma are both on four points after drawing their first game and winning their second respective matches. Ajax will travel to Münich in three weeks time with the hope that they can leap-frog their opponents in their group and put themselves in a better position to qualify for the next round of the competition.
