Standard Liege and Anderlecht interested in Stef Peeters

Het Nieuwsblad is reporting that both Standard Liege and Anderlecht are showing interest in free agent Stef Peeters. The 31-year-old central midfielder left Eupen at the end of the season but has yet to find a new club. Sides from Turkey and Saudi-Arabia were reportedly interested in Peeters, but none of the offers appear to have enticed him.

Peeters was a key player for Eupen last season, as the former Cercle Brugge midfielder led the side in goals (seven) and assists (seven). It was never likely that he would remain at the relegation threatened side, as his ability was clearly something that larger Pro League sides would be interested in.

However, with the season up and running, he will have to play catch up wherever he ends up playing. Both interested sides lost their opening games this weekend, with Anderlecht losing the Brussels derby to Union St Gilloise and Standard Liege losing late on against Sint-Truiden.
