Club Brugge beat Standard Liege to signing of former Watford and Nottingham Forest attacker

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Club Brugge have beaten Standard Liege to the signing of Philip Zinckernagel. The former Watford and Nottingham Forest attacker spent last season on loan with Standard, however the Liege side were unable to strike a deal with his parent club Olympiacos. It appears that new Club Brugge head coach Ronny Deila, who was the head coach at Standard last season, has asked his new side to bring the 28-year-old Dane to Brugge.

In 28 games for Liege, Zinckernagel was the sides premier goal threat as he grabbed 10 goals and provided two assists. His career in Olympiacos has never really taken off, as he has only managed seven games and two goals since joining in the summer of 2022. He joined the Greek side from Watford, where he had moved to from Norway in 2021. During his time in Norway Zinckernagel was part of the then emerging Bodo/Glimt side. His stats for the side are incredible, with 34 goals in 86 games. During the 2020 Norwegian season, he scored 19 goals and provided 18 assists.

In England, however, he struggled to replicate that form. After just one goal and five assists for Watford in 21 games, he joined Nottingham Forest on loan. He managed seven goals for Forest in 50 games during the 2021/2022 promotion season, as well as seven assists.

Club Brugge drew their first game of the season against KV Mechelen.
