QPR in talks to bring forgotten Antwerp striker to London

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that QPR are in talks with Antwerp over a deal to bring Swiss striker Michael Frey to London. The 29-year-old has not played a single minute of Pro League football after returning from Schalke 04 over the summer. Once the sides leading striker, he was replaced last summer by Vincent Janssen and saw his playing time dramatically reduced. After 15 goalless games for Schalke he returned to Antwerp.

Prior to joining Antwerp, Frey impressed with Waasland-Beveren during the 2020/2021 season. In 27 games for the side that were eventually relegated from the Pro League, he scored 12 goals and provided three assists. Antwerp signed him the next summer, and during the 2021/2022 campaign he grabbed an impressive 24 goals in 39 games, with four assists as well.

However, Janssen was the choice for new head coach Mark Van Bommel that summer, with Frey having to settle for substitute appearances. He still managed an impressive seven goals in 14 games before going on loan to the Bundesliga side. A number of other Pro League clubs have been interested in signing Frey on loan, but none have been able to reach a deal with Antwerp.
