Anderlecht looking to sign Danish goalkeeper as back-up to Kasper Schmeichel

With the departure of Maxime Dupé back to Ligue 1 being reported as imminent, Anderlecht have gone looking for a goalkeeper who can fill his role as back-up to 37-year-old Kasper Schmeichel. Tipsbladet is reporting that their search has seen them land on Mads Juhl Kikkenborg of Lyngby BK. The 24-year-old could follow in the footsteps of his former head coach, Freyr Alexandersson, who recently moved from Denmark to take over as head coach of Kortrijk.

The 24-year-old Kikkenborg appears to be the solution to a problem of Anderlecht’s own making. In the summer, Dupé was brought in to be the sides number one. However, when veteran goalkeeper Schmeichel was suddenly available, the club changed their plans, bringing in the former Leicester City favourite and establishing him as the sides number one.

This season, Kikkenborg has made 17 appearances in the Danish Superliga, keeping three clean sheets and conceding 27 goals. The former Esbjerg fB has been with Lyngby since 2021 and has a contract until 2026. The fee being negotiated is said to be in the region of €1.5m.
