According to De Telegraaf, the PSV supporters association wants Ruud van Nistelrooy to quickly clarify his departure from the club. On Wednesday, Ruud resigned from his role as PSV manager after less than a season in charge. Rumours were circulating that several players had made complaints about his style of coaching. A statement from the club said that the 46-year-old resigned after ‘several discussions about internal affairs’ had taken place in recent weeks.
The Chairman of the PSV supporters association, Rob Bogaarts, has since said the resignation ‘came as a surprise to us and it feels like a big disappointment.’ He added ‘Ruud was a top-class PSV player and he has experienced everything in the football world. Yet something happened that affected him immensely. It would be good for the peace around the club if he comes out with that.’
With supporters left guessing what might have made the former Manchester United man resign, Bogaarts said ‘Ruud is poked and prodded. He knows that in the football world things get leaked from time to time, that’s part of it. Ruud doesn’t go about things overnight and yet he makes this decision.’
Van Nistelrooy has received a huge amount of support from PSV fans on social media. Less than a month ago the club lifted the KNVB Cup, now they’re without a head coach. Bogaarts continued by saying ‘There is sadness and anger. Ruud is a PSV star, a hero. He has meant so much to the club. It is sad that he is now leaving the club in this way.’
