Heracles striker making up for lost time with nine goals in 13 games

Over the summer, Heracles brought striker Jizz Hornkamp over from Willem II. The 26-year-old had finished the previous season in the Dutch second tier with 11 goals and six assists in 35 games. The side from Almelo had hoped that Hornkamp would be their star forward this season. However, he only lasted a half during his debut against Ajax and was injured until January.

Hornkamp returned from injury at the start of the year, and has certainly been making up for lost time. In his last 12 games he has scored nine goals, including a brace in the sides recent 5-0 thumping of AZ. He is already the sides top scorer despite having missed months through injury. For a side that has conceded 59 goals in 28 games, having someone reliable at the other end of the pitch is an absolute must.

Thanks to the win over AZ, Heracles have built a small buffer between themselves and third bottom. The seven point gap should be manageable, with no more games against the so called ‘big’ sides in Dutch football to come. If Hornkamp can keep this form up to end the season, expect other clubs in the Eredivisie to be interested in his services. The striker is under contract with Heracles until 2026, with the side having an option of an extra year.
