PSV considering Toulouse teammates Stijn Spierings and Branco van den Boomen to bolster their midfield

According to Voetbal International, PSV Eindhoven are interested in Toulouse teammates Stijn Spierings (pictured) and Branco van den Boomen. The Dutch duo have attracted interest from several top European clubs following an impressive season with Toulouse in Ligue 1. Last week Spierings and van den Boomen featured in the Toulouse side that thrashed Nantes 5-1 in the final of the Coupe de France.

PSV could see some summer departures themselves. Mexican midfielder Erick Gutierrez seems to be on his way out and 25-year-old Ibrahim Sangare is a midfielder in demand. The Ivorian could also be leaving the Philips Stadion this summer.

Former Waalwijk and Sparta Rotterdam midfielder Stijn Spierings has played 38 times for Toulouse this season, operating as a defensive midfielder. The 27-year-olds current contract expires this summer, making him an attractive candidate for PSV. Spierings has indicated that he would only return to the Netherlands to play for a top club. Branco van den Boomen is also in the final year of his current contract. He has featured 36 times for Toulouse this season, playing in central midfield. The 27-year-old played for De Graafschap in the Eerste Divisie before joining Toulouse in 2020.

Both players could be brilliant additions to Ruud van Nistelrooy’s PSV squad. But, if they’re able to keep Ibrahim Sangare and Xavi Simons in the summer, it’s most likely they wouldn’t need to sign both of them. PSV have the talented 24-year-old Joey Veerman and Guus Til, who both operate in midfield. They’ve also got 22-year-old Moroccan midfielder Ismael Saibari, who has broken into the first team this season. Stijn Spierings and Branco van den Boomen would be excellent defensive midfield options for PSV if they are in need of replacements.
