Philip Zinckernagel and Steven Alzate unlikely to return to Standard Liege next season

In an interview with HLN, Standard Liege director Pierre Locht has revealed that the clubs chances of Philip Zinckernagel and Steven Alzate returning next season are slim. The pair are currently on loan at the club, but there are no purchase options included in the deals. Both have been key players for the sides successful season, but it looks like they will have to look elsewhere to plug the gaps once they leave.

Locht states that qualifying for European football will be a key factor in how they approach the summer transfer window. Standard are looking set to be in play-off two, so will need to finish top of that if they are to get a chance at continental football. They may well be competing with defending champions Club Brugge, who are currently fifth and two points off of the top four.

This revelation also comes at a time when head coach Ronny Deila is seeking assurances from the clubs board. Deila has been linked with the vacancy that is going to be coming up with Club Brugge in the summer. Ole Gunnar Solskjær is another name on Club Brugge’s shortlist for next season.
