Concerns for Standard Liege as Ronny Deila seeks assurance amid Club Brugge interest

Ronny Deila’s performance as head coach of Standard Liege has certainly not gone unnoticed. As reported by Sacha Tavolieri, the former Celtic man is on the shortlist at Club Brugge. This has led to Deila speaking with the Standard hierarchy to get assurances on the plans for next season in terms of building a squad that can be more competitive. Deila has had to work with a small budget, relying on loan deals to bring in key players. With the chance of working with a far larger budget at Club Brugge, and probably a better wage personally, it is of little surprise that the head coach wants to know the plans for Standard going forward.

Deila’s side are currently just behind defending champions Club Brugge, with 49 points from 31 games. They have certainly overperformed this season and will be competing in play-off two when the regular season ends in three matchdays time.

Deila is not the only one on the shortlist however, with former Manchester United manager Ole Gunnar Solskjær also appearing on the clubs managerial shortlist. Club Brugge are looking for their fifth manager since Phillipe Clement left to join Monaco back in January of 2021. Rik De Mil is currently in charge as a caretaker until the end of the season, having taken over from Scott Parker.
