No Barcelona distraction for Antwerp as the Great Old breeze past Westerlo

There was no Champions League distraction for Antwerp on Friday night as they overcame Westerlo away from home. The Great Old are set to travel to the Nou Camp for the clubs first Champions League fixture in their history on Tuesday. Mark van Bommel’s side made light work of a Westerlo side that have yet to win this season.

Vincent Janssen took advantage of a mistake from goalkeeper Nick Gillekens and the Westerlo midfield. Mandela Keita easily won the ball back after the keepers pass was under hit, before Janssen tucked home That was the Dutch strikers fifth goal in six games this season. Jelle Bataille finished well to make it 2-0 in the 67th minute before Abnor Muja tucked home the third from close range in the 83rd minute.

Despite investing heavily in the squad over the summer, Westerlo remain winless this season and second bottom in the league from their opening seven games. Their only point came in the opening game against Eupen when they drew 2-2, coming back from 2-0 down. So far the side have scored seven goals but conceded 16.
