Nigerian striker grabs sixth goal of the season to seal crucial win for Genk

Nigerian striker Yira Sor grabbed his sixth goal of the season to earn a crucial win for Genk over Charleroi on Friday night. The win keeps Genk in the hunt for a top six place, while Charleroi remain well and truly in the battle to avoid relegation. Sor has now scored the second most goals for Genk this season, two behind fellow Nigerian forward Tolu Arokodare.

Genk had plenty of chances to ensure the game ended more than just 1-0. Charleroi goalkeeper Herve Koffi made a number of saves as the away side managed 19 shots in total, with seven on target. Genk also finished with 65% possession.

Goal shy Charleroi continued to struggle. They only managed an xG of 0.38, with six shots, four of which were on target. In 27 games this season the side have scored just 25, the third lowest in the league. No player has scored more than four goals for the side this season, with three players tied on that number.

Charleroi now have just three games to ensure their survival. First up is a trip to Westerlo before they return home to host Cercle Brugge. Their final game is against Gent. Felice Mazzu said this week the side just need six points. At that point they still had four games to get the points. The Zebras are certainly running out of time.
