Mike Tresor hits 20 assists for the season as Genk overcome Anderlecht

Mike Tresor continued to lead the league in assist making this weekend as the 23-year-old grabbed his 20th assist of the season. The former Willem II winger provided for Mbwana Samatta’s opener and for the final goal of the game by Ghana’s Joseph Paintsil. The league leaders rediscovered their scoring touch as they put five past Anderlecht, who could only manage two in response from Islam Slimani and Anders Dreyer.

With one game to go in the regular season, Genk remain top of the league with 74 points. Union St Gilloise are hot on their heals with 72, while Antwerp are just behind on 69. After the weekends games the play-offs will begin, with each team having their points halved. This should result in a three way race for the title between these sides, with Gent or Club Brugge playing spoiler as the fourth team in play-off one.

Anderlecht had hoped to be in play-off two, but as of now they will be missing out. Both Charleroi and Cercle Brugge remain one point ahead of them, so the Mauves will need both to lose on the final day. Cercle Brugge face a Zulte Waregem side that have to win to stand a chance of survival, while Charleroi play Genk.

Anderlecht play KV Mechelen in their final game, but before that they will travel to the Netherlands to face AZ Alkmaar, hoping to defend their 2-0 aggregate lead in the Europa Conference League quarter-finals.
