Marc Overmars open to a possible return to Ajax despite controversy

Marc Overmars could possibly be open to a return to Ajax for a second stint as director of football, according to an interview on ESPN

The former Arsenal and Barcelona winger resigned from his role in February 2022 after admitting sending a series of inappropriate messages to female colleagues at the club. Since resigning from the role, the club are yet to appoint a successor.

However, despite leaving the club in such a manner, his lawyer Keje Molenaar has hinted a return to the club for his client is certainly a possibility.

He said: “If they say it’s acceptable for him to return, under certain conditions of course, then that should just be possible.”

Molenaar, who used to play for Ajax and Feyenoord, revealed the Royal Antwerp director has learned lessons regarding his behaviour that saw his time at Ajax come to end.

He added: “Marc has also learned from it. He’s definitely not going to do this a second time.”

The Amsterdam club are without a permanent manager and a director of football at the moment after Alfred Schreuder was sacked after a poor run of form.

They currently lie fifth in the Eredivisie league table and five points behind leaders Feyenoord – who they drew 1-1 at De Kuip in what ended up being Schreuder’s last match as Ajax’s head coach.
