Marc Overmars could face prison sentence over misconduct during Ajax tenure

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Marc Overmars could face two months in prison as a result of the investigation into his misconduct during his time with Ajax. The former Arsenal midfielder pleaded guilty to sending explicit and unsolicited pictures to female members of the Ajax staff. Another outcome could be that Overmars will have to undertake community service. The paper is reporting that, regardless of the outcome, Antwerp will stick with Overmars in his role as Director of Football.

Overmars left Ajax quickly to the shock of many, only for the news to be released shortly after as to the reasons for his departure. Barely two months later he joined Antwerp, which caused some dismay amongst the clubs supporters given how quickly he had been given a footballing lifeline.

At Antwerp, Overmars was part of the decision to bring in Mark van Bommel, and his transfers has led the side to win their first league title since 1957. It has certainly raised questions about how seriously the footballing community takes actions of the like that Overmars committed. The verdict should be delivered in the next few weeks.
