Genk, Gent and Westerlo battling it out for Strasbourg’s Ukrainian international defender

Het Belang Van Limburg are reporting that Genk have joined the race to sign former Club Brugge defender Eduard Sobol. The 28-year-old Ukrainian international defender is currently at Ligue 1 side Strasbourg, but has only made three appearances for the French side this season. He signed for the side back in the winter of 2023, but has only made 19 appearances since January.

Genk are looking for another full-back with Joris Kayembe at AFCON and Gerardo Arteaga looking to return to Mexico. Sobol has plenty of Pro League experience, having made well over 100 appearances for Club Brugge between 2019 and January 2023. He also scored four goals for the side. Sobol has also spent time playing in Ukraine and Czechia. At international level, the defender has earned 29 caps for Ukraine.

Westerlo and Gent are also interested in signing the defender. Westerlo are currently at risk of relegation and want to sure up their defence with some more experience, while Gent are also set to miss some players due to the upcoming AFON and Asia Cup.
