Genk and Southampton negotiating remarkable swap deal

According to Sacha Tavolieri, Genk and Southampton are negotiating a swap deal which will see Paul Onuachu return to Belgium. The Nigerian striker only left Genk in January, but struggled in a Saints team that were relegated from the Premier League. The striker, according to Tavolieri, is hoping to return to Genk. In return, Genk are willing to send Joseph Paintstil to England. The Ghanaian winger had his best season for Genk last season, scoring 17 goals and providing 11 assists.

Genk have struggled without a recognised striker this season, with Yira Sor having to operate as the central focal point. So far this season, Genk have only scored five goals in four games, with two games where they haven’t scored. One of these came in a shock 1-0 defeat to Eupen.

Onuachu played 134 games for Genk during his time in Belgium, scoring 85 goals. This included setting the record for most goals scored in a single Belgian Pro League season, with the tall striker grabbing 33 goals during the 2020/2021 season.
