PSV Eindhoven have completed the signing of Sergiño Dest on loan from Barcelona. An option to buy the right-back for €10m at the end of the campaign has been included in the deal.
Dest previously played 38 first-team matches for Ajax, having graduated through the club’s youth academy. In 2020 Barcelona signed the 22-year-old for €21m, but he struggled to impress during his two seasons in Spain. The versatile full-back featured 51 times in La Liga before moving to AC Milan, where he played last season. In Italy, he featured just 14 times.
PSV weren’t the only club looking to sign Dest this summer. Premier League and Portuguese sides were also reportedly interested, but now, PSV have picked up their target and they’ll have the option to purchase him on a permanent basis for around €10m at the end of the season.
Born in the Dutch city of Almere, Sergiño Dest has represented the US national team on 26 occasions. Now, he’s returned to his country of birth, where he’ll be aiming to beat Ajax and Feyenoord to the Eredivisie title under head coach Peter Bosz. Dest will be available to play for PSV on Tuesday night when they take on Rangers in the Champions League playoffs.
