Former Ajax forward Quincy Promes prosecuted for smuggling over 1,300 kilos of cocaine

According to Het Parool, former Ajax winger Quincy Promes is being prosecuted for importing over 1,300 kilos of cocaine. It’s been reported that the drugs were intercepted in the port of Antwerp, Belgium, in 2020.

Promes, who played for Ajax between 2019 and 2021, has been suspected of involvement in cocaine smuggling for a while. In the past, he’s been approached twice by the Amsterdam criminal investigation department about his contacts with criminals. Now the Public Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute him for involvement in the import of two batches of cocaine. Previously, Promes is said to have stabbed a cousin in the knee with a knife.

A case is set to continue in the Amsterdam court next Monday. Whether Promes attends is still in question, seeing as he currently plays for Spartak Moscow in the Russian Premier Liga. This season he’s scored 20 goals and provided seven assists in 26 appearances. The 31-year-old winger has also had spells at FC Twente, Go Ahead Eagles and Sevilla. Promes has featured 50 times for the Dutch national team.
