Surprise all round as Club Brugge are put up for sale

Het Nieuwsblad are reporting that Club Brugge are up for sale. Majority shareholders Grizzly Sports NV, the company in which chairman Bart Verhaeghe, CEO Vincent Mannaert, Peter Vanhecke (CEO Casstel Capital) and Jan Boone (CEO Lotus) have their shares bundled, are looking to move on. Verhaeghe has been in charge since 2011, in which time the club has won five league titles and one cup.

The news has come as a shock to many fans, who believe that they should have been warned before the story broke. Club Brugge’s owners are working with the Raine Group to find a new buyer for the club. The investment group worked on the sale of Chelsea and is currently working on the sale of Manchester United.

This announcement comes just a few days after it was confirmed that Ronny Deila would be taking over as head coach next season. The former Celtic manager leaves Standard Liege after just one season in charge, a move that surprised fans and sporting director Fergal Harkin.
