Dutch duo Bram Nuytinck and Sam Lammers relegated from Serie A with Sampdoria

Dutch duo Bram Nuytinck and Sam Lammers have been relegated from Serie A with Sampdoria. The pair featured in Monday night’s game that confirmed the club’s relegation from the first tier. A 2-0 defeat to Udinese sent Sampdoria into the second tier for the first time in 12 seasons. Dejan Stankovic’s side have lost 23 of their 34 league games this season and picked up just 17 points.

Defender Bram Nuytinck was in the starting line-up for Monday night’s decisive game. The 33-year-old couldn’t keep out goals from Udinese’s Roberto Pereyra and Adam Masina. Nuytinck has featured 16 times for Sampdoria this season, and the club have kept just two clean sheets with him in their backline. The former Netherlands U21 international previously played for Anderlecht in the Belgian Pro League and NEC Nijmegen in the Eredivisie.

Former PSV striker Sam Lammers was also in Monday night’s Sampdoria squad. The 26-year-old has had a hideous season in front of goal, scoring just once in 16 Serie A games. Lammers joined Sampdoria on loan from Atalanta in January. He’ll return to his parent club at the end of the season.

Two days before Sampdoria’s relegation was confirmed, their neighbours Genoa secured promotion from Serie B back to Serie A. Former Netherlands international midfielder, Kevin Strootman plays in the Genoa side currently second in Serie B. Strootman has played a crucial part in their campaign, featuring 29 times in the league.
