Antwerp looking to sign Argentinian left-back from CA Independiente to replace Ajax loanee Owen Wijndal

According to Het Nieuwsblad, Antwerp are looking to sign Ayrton Costa from CA Inependiente. The Great Old are looking for a replacement for Owen Wijndal, who is currently on loan from Ajax, with the deal not including a purchase option. Costa currently plays under former Manchester City striker Carlos Tevez and could cost around €2.5m.

The Argentine defender can also play as a central defender, allowing Antwerp to switch to a back three when they want to. Since making his debut for the club in 2020 the defender has played 61 times for Independiente, scoring three goals and providing two assists. During the 2022 season he was loaned to Platense, playing 18 times and scoring once.

Antwerp will also be looking for a new head coach in the summer of 2024. Mark van Bommel has stated his desire to leave the club after winning the double last season. He could sign off with a cup win if they beat Union St Gilloise in the cup final this month.
