Ajax complete €14m signing of Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough

Ajax have officially announced the signing of Chuba Akpom from Middlesbrough. The Dutch giants will pay an initial fee of €12.3m, which can rise to €14.3m through variables. The 27-year-old striker has signed a contract valid until June 2028.

Chuba Akpom scored 28 goals in 38 Championship appearances for Middlesbrough last season, making him the league’s top scorer. After an outstanding campaign, several sides including Ligue 1 club Lens have shown serious interest in the former Arsenal, Hull City and PAOK striker. Ajax made their move and have won the race for the London-born player.

Ajax only had one striker in their squad prior to adding Akpom to the selection. Brian Brobbey (21) was the only man available in that position, but now Ajax have extra fire power. Akpom will wear the number 10 shirt this season after becoming Ajax’s sixth summer signing. This could turn out to be brilliant business for the 36-time Eredivisie champions, who are looking to win more silverware this season.
