Three key Ajax players missing for Thursday’s crucial Europa League clash against Brighton

Ajax’s interim manager Hedwiges Maduro will have to make do without three crucial players for Thursday’s Europa League clash with Brighton. Georges Mikautadze, Jay Gorter and Devyne Rensch will not be available for selection.

Georgian striker Georges Mikautadze is unavailable due to illness, whilst goalkeeper Jay Gorter and defender Devyne Rensch are missing due to injuries. Gorter has started between the sticks in every game for Ajax so far this season. The 23-year-old was substituted with 15 minutes left to play in Ajax’s 4-3 defeat to Utrecht last Sunday, having picked up an injury. Gorter’s replacement will either be the experienced Remko Pasveer or new acquisition Diant Ramaj.

Hedwiges Maduro will take charge of Ajax for the first time since the sacking of Maurice Steijn was confirmed on Monday. The Dutch giants are currently searching for a successor, but a change in management will most likely take place after this week’s matches with Brighton and PSV. Ajax are currently 17th in the Eredivisie table having endured their worst start to a league season since the tournament began in 1956.
