Teenager George Ilenikhena already living up to his potential

Not many 17-year-olds can say they have scored in the Champions League against Barcelona. Antwerp’s George Ilenikhena is one who can. The French forward, who is also eligible for Nigeria, signed from Amiens in the summer, is already living up to his potential, which begs the question, how much better can he become?

He leads the Pro League in goals per 90, with 1.61, unsurprising when you consider he is used mainly as a substitute, but still remarkable how much of an impact he can have off the bench. He already has 10 goals in 29 games for Antwerp, with six of those coming in the league.

In the sides last league game against Charleroi he was given a rare start, and made the most of it. The young forward grabbed a goal, while also helping to use his height to win a number of aerial duals.

Antwerp are set to sell Arthur Vermeeren to Atletico Madrid for around €27m. If Ilenikhena can keep up his form this season, expect to see him go for a similar fee in the future.
