Tarik Tissoudali criticises Gent’s January transfer policy that saw Gift Orban and Malick Fofana join Lyon

Gent’s Moroccan international Tarik Tissoudali was noticeably frustrated following the sides 4-2 defeat to Standard Liege on Saturday night. Following the game, he criticised Gent’s transfer policy in January which saw a number of key players leave the club, especially in the striking department. Top scorer Hugo Cuypers moved to the MLS, while Gift Orban and Malick Fofana received big money moves to Lyon. When asked what was going wrong at the club, Tissoudali immediately pointed to the transfer policy in January and argued that it has failed.

Since selling in January, Gent have gone from a side that, on paper at least, should have been competing for the title, to one that is now struggling to make the top six. Since returning from the winter break Gent have only won once, which was against an Eupen side have that have not scored for six games.

Gent are currently in seventh place, level on points with Genk and level on wins but behind on goal difference. Their two games remaining are against league leaders Union St Gilloise and relegation threatened Charleroi.
