Abdelkahar Kadri shines and Cardiff City loanee grabs seventh goal of the season as Kortrijk keep survival hopes alive

Kortrijk and RWDM faced off on Sunday evening in a relegation six pointer, with defeat for the home side having all but ended their chances of survival this season. For RWDM, after the weekendā€™s results they knew a win would have moved them within two points of safety.

Yet it was Kortrijk who struck first. On loan Cardiff City striker Isaak Davies grabbed his seventh goal of the season after some awful defending from the away side. Davies is Kortrijkā€™s top scorer this season having scored his seven within 24 matches. RWDM struck back under 20 minutes later, with in form forward MickaĆ«l Biron smashing home from a corner. The former Oostende forward has also scored seven this season, with three coming in his last five matches.

After the hour mark Abdelkahar Kadri began to make his mark on the game. After being fouled outside the box, the Algerian midfielder fired the free kick beyond Theo Defourny. RWDM struck back immediately, with former Lyon and Nice midfielder Jeff Reine-Adelaide equalising just two minutes after Kortrijk had taken the lead.

With time running down, Kortrijk were awarded a reasonably soft penalty after Omotayo Adaramola was adjudged to have fouled a Kortrijk player in the box. Kadri made no mistake from the spot and despite both sides having more chances, the home side held on for the final 15 minutes to take a much needed victory.
